A multinational defence service line in The Hague is adding a second solution support engineer to look after the software its users rely on. You sit between operations and the development side: diagnosing faults, shaping how components fit together, and making sure the fix becomes part of the design. On site, with a turn on the immediate on-call rota.

What you would be doing

• Tracking technical issues across software, hardware and integrations down to their real cause, and seeing them through to resolution
• Keeping the applications healthy day to day - maintenance, performance figures and the deployment work around each release
• Weighing up architectural options on cost, performance and scale, and writing down the decisions that matter
• Specifying cloud or on-premises components and their interfaces, in line with the wider architecture and its security rules
• Helping to capture requirements for clearly bounded areas and keeping the baseline under control
• Planning development activity, making sure stakeholders know what is needed, and reporting progress honestly
• Covering second-line on-call when it is your turn

What you would bring

• Strong diagnostic skills across software, hardware and integrations, with log analysis and debugging as second nature
• Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform, plus solid working knowledge of APIs and integration patterns
• The organisation to run a support effort across several teams until the problem is actually gone
• A background in customer-facing technical support or service desk work, and ITIL training
• Welcome extras: software design and testing, agile delivery, and installation work in a military setting
