A Windows estate is only as good as the person who automates it.

A multinational defence organisation runs a set of environments in The Hague that its own engineers and customers depend on daily. You would keep those environments healthy, and you would be the person everybody asks when something Microsoft-shaped goes wrong.

What you would be doing

• Operating and maintaining the whole family of environments behind one service line, rather than a single box
• Acting as the reference point for Windows Server and the Microsoft tool suite around it - update management, configuration management, directory and federation services
• Writing and maintaining the PowerShell that removes the repetitive work, and the configuration management that keeps every machine the same
• Getting to root cause when a system or a service misbehaves, and saying plainly what happened
• Bringing new services into operation and improving the ones already there

What you would bring

• Solid hands-on administration of Windows and Windows Server in a large organisation, with the surrounding Microsoft management stack
• Real scripting ability in PowerShell, plus configuration management tooling such as Ansible, Puppet or Chef
• Comfortable troubleshooting both servers and end-user machines under time pressure
• Working knowledge of a virtualisation stack, and ideally containers or public cloud
• Professional English, and the habit of writing down what you changed

Why this one is worth a look

It is a broad remit on a serious platform, with enough automation work in it to be interesting, and it runs from a standing framework rather than a one-off project. There is flexibility to work from home when the work allows it.
