Digital Workflow Developer — Rapid Prototyping and Pilots for NATO with security clearance
Build the working prototype instead of the slide about it: take a spreadsheet-and-email process, and give the users a real application within weeks.
Relocation to the United States — Norfolk, Virginia. We provide the NATO-5 visa.
A multinational defence organisation wants its capability development work digitised, and wants it proven by working software rather than by studies. This role builds proofs of concept, prototypes and operational pilots, and iterates them with the people who use them.
What you would be doing
- Rapid hands-on development of digital workflow prototypes and pilots on approved platforms.
- Working directly with process owners and operational users to understand how the work flows today.
- Documenting the current and desired workflow in enough detail to see roles, states, decision points and exchanges.
- Turning operational needs into a minimum viable prototype that can be built, demonstrated and iterated quickly.
- Designing and configuring structured data capture, roles, states, business rules, validation, routing, approvals, notifications and status tracking.
- Integrating prototypes with approved data sources through interfaces, databases, web services or structured file exchange.
- Writing lightweight scripts or components when configurable tooling alone will not prove the idea.
- Using approved AI-assisted development tooling where it genuinely speeds up prototyping.
- Running user testing and pilots, then improving on what you observe rather than what you assumed.
- Measuring the effect against a baseline: cycle time, manual effort, data completeness.
- Naming the security, data management, licensing, hosting and sustainment constraints early.
What you would bring
- A university degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, human-centred design, business process management or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Recent hands-on delivery of digital applications, workflows or prototypes that you built personally.
- At least twelve months inside the last twenty-four spent doing that development yourself.
- At least two of the last five years in low-code, no-code or configurable application development outside the Microsoft stack, with at least two solutions you built yourself and at least one with real users.
- Hands-on development across at least two distinct rapid-development platforms.
- Fluent professional English.
- Note: experience limited to directing, supervising, advising, architecting or owning the product does not meet this requirement — the client asks for hands-on build.
This is a long engagement that renews year on year, not a short project.
