Camunda Workflow Engineer — Process Automation for NATO with security clearance
Own a workflow automation platform end to end: the Camunda estate itself, and the processes, forms and integrations that run on it.
A multinational defence organisation runs a growing amount of its internal process automation on Camunda, and is looking for the engineer who will both keep that platform healthy and build what runs on top of it. This is one seat with two halves, and the second is the interesting one.
What you would be doing
- Keeping the platform supported and available against agreed service levels, on a proactive maintenance plan agreed in advance rather than by firefighting.
- Planning and applying patches, hotfixes and approved version upgrades, and upgrading the database technology underneath.
- Testing every modification before it reaches anything that matters, and troubleshooting performance when it slips.
- Administering users, groups and security settings, and keeping the configuration documented well enough to be handed over.
- Drafting the automation roadmap and the governance and management plans, then keeping them current with the customer.
- Gathering requirements from staff across the organisation and turning process descriptions into models for automation.
- Building and maintaining workflows, including the forms people actually interact with, and the workflows that exchange data with third-party applications.
- Troubleshooting data exchange errors, correcting them, and documenting every development so the next person is not starting from scratch.
- Producing training material, guides and knowledge articles for the people who use it.
What you would bring
- Substantial experience developing workflows on Camunda 7 or above, including process modelling in BPMN and DMN, and building the React forms that sit in front of them.
- Strong Java, because the platform is Java based, plus Spring Boot or external task workers written in another language such as JavaScript or Python.
- Hands-on integration with third-party systems over REST APIs, message queues, connectors and microservices.
- Comfort with databases and with handling data inside a running process.
- Git and continuous integration tooling for deploying, testing and maintaining automation solutions.
- A working understanding of how process models execute natively, and how that architecture supports fast, incremental delivery.
- The analytical habit of taking a complicated business workflow apart and putting something maintainable in its place, plus genuine troubleshooting skill.
- Clear written and spoken English, the confidence to present status to a senior audience, and the patience to negotiate with system owners and project managers.
- Nice to have: French.
Extensions are offered where the work goes well. Applications are reviewed as they arrive.
