Network Engineer — Deployable Mission Communications for NATO with security clearance
Design, build and deploy the network under a mobile mission communications system — enterprise engineering, but the kit gets packed into cases and flown out.
This is enterprise network engineering with a difference: the network you design gets packed into transit cases and stood up somewhere it has never been before. The role supports the deployable communications capability behind a NATO mission — designing it, integrating it, testing it, and being there when it is switched on for real.
It suits an engineer who is as comfortable writing the implementation procedure as running the configuration, and who would rather find the problem during the test plan than during the exercise.
What you would be doing
- Design, configure and integrate enterprise network infrastructure for deployable communications kits.
- Take builds through test, validation and deployment, including support to exercises and implementation projects.
- Support production deployments and the operational network once it is live, at engineering level.
- Produce implementation procedures, test plans, standard operating procedures and technical documentation.
- Maintain configuration management records so the estate is actually knowable.
- Work alongside the platform, security and service management teams, and report monthly on performance.
What you would bring
- A degree in a computing, engineering or telecommunications discipline with at least two years of relevant experience — or five years of strong practical experience in its place.
- Five years or more of progressive network engineering: design, implementation, configuration, integration, deployment and support.
- Experience delivering inside operational or project environments, not only in a lab.
- A track record of writing documentation that other engineers can follow.
- Professional English, spoken and written.
The work is on site in Brunssum, in normal office hours, with occasional planned night work for change windows and roughly one trip a month to other European locations.
