Senior Enterprise Architect for NATO with security clearance
Safeguard the databases an alliance of 32 nations runs on — a senior SQL Server DBA seat across on-prem and Azure: high-availability, automation and security, at the heart of NATO.
Where: Fully on-site in Brussels, Belgium.
Would you like to join the leading international intergovernmental organisation?
NATO's technology agency runs a vast Programme of Work — dozens of projects modernising the Alliance's digital backbone. It needs a senior architect at the portfolio level to keep that programme coherent: making sure every project aligns with NATO's technology strategy, traces cleanly to its capability roadmaps, and doesn't overlap or collide with what's already being built.
This is architecture with a governance lens. You'll review incoming project gate documents, weigh their technical requirements against NATO's strategies and design-authority guidance, surface overlaps, gaps and dependencies, and turn your findings into the dashboards and decision-support the portfolio leadership relies on. You won't own the decisions — you'll make sure the people who do have sharp, well-structured analysis in front of them.
What you'll do
- Review project gate documents and assess coherence with NATO's technology strategies, initiatives and capability roadmaps
- Trace projects to the underlying capability work; flag overlaps, duplication and dependencies
- Check project scope against the CTO Technology Strategy and Technical Design Authority guidance
- Turn operational data into structured analytical views, dashboards and governance reports
- Consolidate findings with architecture, engineering and portfolio stakeholders
- Keep everything documented, version-controlled and traceable
What you'll bring
- 5+ years in NATO IT or a NATO agency; proven grasp of NATO structures, working groups and military operations
- Expert information architecture and systems engineering, plus C4ISR policies and directives (5+ years)
- 4+ years in business analysis, architecture taxonomies and governance reporting
- Strong stakeholder engagement across analysts and decision-makers
- Hands-on with cloud, AI, cybersecurity, networks and DevSecOps
- Solid data analysis; confident reporting in English
- A degree in data science, engineering, information systems or business administration (or equivalent experience)
- Nationality of a NATO nation
- An active NATO Secret clearance (must already be in place to apply)
If keeping a huge technology programme coherent sounds like your kind of challenge, we'd love to hear from you — apply and we'll be in touch quickly if it's a fit. It should only take a few minutes to complete the brief questionnaire.
