Data Engineer (Python & Power BI) for NATO with security clearance

This is not a traditional siloed data role. You will operate as a full-stack data specialist—designing and maintaining robust data pipelines, applying advanced analytics techniques, and delivering compelling visualisations that drive operational and strategic decisions. From master data governance and SQL database administration to building interactive dashboards in Power BI or Grafana, your work will span the entire data lifecycle
Responsibilities:
Data Management & Governance
Devises and implements master data management processes for specific data subsets.
Assesses data integrity from multiple sources and advises on data transformation between formats/mediums.
Maintains and implements information handling procedures to ensure availability, integrity, and searchability through formal data/metadata structures and protection measures.
Software Development
Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, amends, and refactors moderately complex programs/scripts using agreed standards and tools.
Monitors progress, identifies issues, proposes practical solutions, and collaborates in reviews with others.
Data Modelling & Design
Investigates complex enterprise data requirements, plans modelling activities, selects appropriate techniques, and advises others on data structures and components.
Data Engineering
Designs, implements, and maintains complex data engineering solutions, including data pipelines connecting data within and between stores, applications, and organisations.
Data Science & Analytics
Investigates problems and datasets to assess the suitability of data science solutions.
Applies a range of data science techniques using specialised programming languages.
Understands and applies industry rules, anticipates risks, and evaluates analytics models.
Contributes to the development, evaluation, monitoring, and deployment of data science solutions.
Business Intelligence
Supports BI needs for management, governance, or operational areas.
Investigates BI reporting requirements, selects and applies non-standard tools and techniques to provide insights and aid decision-making.
Identifies opportunities to digitise and streamline operational data handling and optimise BI capabilities.
Data Visualisation
Applies visualisation techniques, designs data visuals, and automates production for efficient and timely delivery.
Selects appropriate approaches from a range of options and contributes to experimentation.
User Experience Evaluation
Evaluates design options and prototypes to obtain user feedback on developing systems, products, or services.
Tests usability and accessibility, administers evaluations, analyses feedback, and recommends actions.
Identifies areas for future user research.
Checks systems for adherence to applicable standards, guidelines, style guides, and legislation.
Evaluates usability of existing or competitor systems to provide benchmark values and input to design.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
A minimum requirement of a relevant degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in a related discipline and 2 years post-related experience. Or exceptionally, the lack of a university degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate's particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCI Agency, that is, at least 6 years extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the post.
Demonstrable experience as a Data Analyst, Data Scientist, or similar role, or experience performing these functions roles as part of another job.
Demonstrable experience with at least one programming language, such as Python, R, or C#.
Experience with commercially available or open source data visualization tools, such as Power BI, Grafana or R Shiny.
Experience with SQL and relational databases, such as SQL Server.
Experience with user experience KPIs and reporting.
Desirable Experience and Education:
Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements;
Knowledge of NATO responsibilities and organization, including ACO and ACT.
Training & Certifications
ITIL Foundation, DevOps Foundation and certifications proving the competency level in programming/software development skills
