Infrastructure DevOps Implementation Engineer for NATO with security clearance

The Infrastructure DevOps Implementation Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for designing, engineering, and implementing modern IT infrastructure and automation solutions across multiple European locations. This position blends deep infrastructure expertise with a DevOps mindset to build scalable, resilient, and highly automated on-premises and cloud environments. The engineer will lead integration teams, advise on facility-related IT projects, and ensure solutions align with established architecture and security standards.
Responsibilities:
- Design, engineer, and integrate server, storage, and software infrastructure solutions for large-scale enterprise environments.
- Implement and enhance DevOps practices and automation solutions across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructure using tools like Ansible, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Architect and integrate on-premises Private Cloud and Public Cloud infrastructure solutions.
- Provide expert technical advice to building and facility management teams on IT infrastructure requirements for construction, renovation, and migration projects.
- Design and implement solutions to improve IT availability, resiliency, and business continuity.
- Lead a small engineering and integration team in executing hardware/software releases and system migration activities.
- Ensure all designs and implementations comply with established IT architecture and security policies.
- Travel occasionally within Europe to support project delivery and implementation.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Senior Engineering Experience: Minimum of 5 years of proven experience designing, engineering, and integrating large or complex IT infrastructure in a medium-to-large enterprise or systems integrator environment (e.g., supporting 1000+ servers or 10,000+ users).
- Technical Leadership: Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering and integration teams through hardware/software releases and system/data migrations.
- VMware Expertise: Excellent hands-on experience designing and implementing VMware cloud infrastructure, including vSphere and vSAN.
- DevOps & Automation: Excellent experience implementing and working with DevOps tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
- Scripting Proficiency: Experience with shell scripting languages such as Bash or Python.
- Storage & Resilience: Excellent experience designing and implementing resilient storage solutions, including iSCSI and Fibre Channel SANs, and backup/recovery systems.
- Networking & Security: Good understanding of LAN/WAN networking and experience designing/implementing cybersecurity technologies (firewalls, VPN, proxies, anti-malware, DLP).
- Soft Skills: Excellent customer engagement, communication, and documentation skills. Must be self-motivated and capable of working independently or within a team.
- Education: A University degree in a technical subject, preferably Information Technology, from a nationally recognized institution.
- Certifications: Must hold at least one of the following professional certifications (preferably two) for a minimum of 3 years:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher/equivalent
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher/equivalent
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or higher/equivalent
- Valid car driving license.
