Data Architect with security clearance

We are supporting a critical, high-impact programme at the heart of NATO's digital transformation. The IS-CDT is leading the development of a NATO-wide data architecture and the frameworks for secure data sharing between NATO Entities and Alliance member nations. This role is central to the Alliance Data Sharing Environment (ADSE) initiative, a critical effort to enable seamless, governed, and secure data exchange across the Alliance. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundational data strategy for NATO's future.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop enterprise data architectures for NATO-wide use, with a core focus on enabling secure data sharing across security domains (NATO Restricted, Secret, and potentially higher).
- Define and implement data classification schemas, policies, and governance models tailored to a defence environment.
- Develop the strategic blueprint for the Alliance Data Sharing Environment (ADSE), covering data strategy, engineering principles, and activation frameworks.
- Create architectures that support data interoperability between NATO entities and member nations' systems.
- Collaborate on data modelling, master data management (MDM), and metadata management solutions for classified environments.
- Produce high-quality architectural documentation, standards, and guidelines.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Data Classification Expertise: Proven hands-on experience designing data architectures and governance for classified, restricted, and secret data within government, defence, or intelligence sectors.
- Full-Cycle Data Architecture Experience: Demonstrable background in:
- Data Strategy: Developing organisational data strategies.
- Data Engineering: Architecting data pipelines, warehouses, lakes, or fabrics in secure environments.
- Data Activation: Enabling data for analytics, reporting, and operational use securely.
- Relevant Certification: A recognised professional certification (e.g., CDMP, TOGAF, AWS/Azure Data Analytics Specialty, or similar).
- Availability: Available to start on-site in Brussels in Jan/Feb 2026.
- Right to Work: Must have the legal right to work in Belgium.
