We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Developer / Architect with a strong background in COBOL to join our client's team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the scalability, performance, and security of software solutions, driving innovation in architectural design, and overseeing the development and implementation of systems. You will mentor development teams, enforce quality standards, and work closely with stakeholders to propose improvements and deliver robust software solutions.

Key responsibilities:

• Architectural Design & Innovation: Drive architectural design decisions and innovation to ensure software solutions are scalable, secure, and performant.
• Quality Standards & Best Practices: Implement and enforce development standards, including quality gates, code formatters, checkstyles, and best practices for maintaining high-quality code.
• System & Process Improvements: Propose and implement improvements to existing systems and development processes, ensuring efficiency and continuous improvement.
• Development Lifecycle Management: Oversee the development process, including static and unit testing, ensuring best practices are followed at every stage.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with Team Architects, Developers, and other stakeholders to align on technical solutions, requirements, and priorities.
• Mentorship & Guidance: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to development teams, ensuring adherence to best practices and continuous skill development.
• Code Reviews & Test Coverage: Lead code reviews, ensuring high-quality implementation and adequate test coverage for new and existing systems.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of developers, guiding them through complex technical challenges and fostering a collaborative, high-performance development environment.

We are happy to hear from you if you have:

• Over 5 years of experience in software development with a focus on COBOL, and in applying best development practices and principles.
• Experience with development lifecycle tools such as Bitbucket, SonarQube, GitLab, IBM Software Analyzer, and other relevant tools for code quality, version control, and testing.
• Deep understanding of COBOL and other relevant technologies, with experience in developing and maintaining legacy systems.
• Strong ability to analyze complex problems, troubleshoot development and architectural issues, and propose effective solutions.
• Experience in optimizing unit and integration testing performed by developers, ensuring comprehensive test coverage and high-quality deliverables.
• Excellent English communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams and articulate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor development teams, providing technical direction, coaching, and fostering an environment of continuous learning.
• A university/college degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
